Hepatic Hemangioma


Patient: D.M., a 47 year old white female. Diagnosis: Cholelithiasis (Gallbladder stones). The diagnosis was made two months ago during an ERCP procedure. History: Pancreatitis, at least two episodes in the last year. Hemangioma of the liver diagnosed by CT scan four years ago. Repeated ultrasounds revealed a shrunken gallbladder. Suggested treatment was a cholecystectomy. It was decided by the treating doctors to attempt a laparoscopic procedure. The operating room was prepared for an open procedure as well. Surgeons: Dr. K. Konstantinidis, Dr. G. Kyriakou, and Dr. G. Sampalis. Anesthesiologist: Dr. S. Kotsanis. The surgery was done at Athens Medical, in Athens, Greece. The operation was successful. The duration of the procedure was one hour and 15 minutes.

Laparoscopy demonstrated a very large hemangioma. The gallbladder can be seen at the upper right.
