Infra-red Ureteral Stents

This is a 64 year old patient who was found to have an adenocarcinoma of the rectum at 7 cm from the anal verge attached to the surrounding structures. TNM= stage III. The patient was taken to the operating room and underwent a video-laparoscopic assisted abdominal perineal proctosigmoidectomy

Before the procedure, ureteral stents capable of emiting an infra-red beam through fiber optics were placed.

This beam is captured by an infrared sensitive video camera that highlights the position of the ureteral stents displaying them on a high resolution monitor.

This advancing technology has increased the safety and preservation of vital urological structures, especially during laparoscopic colectomies and laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomies.
