Mark A. Pleatman, M.D., is originally from Cincinnati , Ohio . He graduated from Haverford College , and received his M.D. degree from the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine . He completed his Residency in General Surgery at Saint Louis University Hospital . He also completed a fellowship in Surgical Endoscopy at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland , Ohio .

Dr. Pleatman is Certified by the American Board of Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. As a Major in the United States Army Reserve, he served in the Army during the Persian Gulf War.

Dr. Pleatman has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery. He traveled to France in 1989 to learn the technique of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and was the first surgeon in Michigan to perform this procedure. He has been featured on television and in numerous newspaper articles regarding laparoscopic surgery, and has trained many surgeons in these new procedures. He has invented and patented a device commonly used around the world for laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Pleatman has traveled to Estelí , Jinotega , and Juigalpa, Nicaragua , as well as Suva, in the Fiji Islands, where he trained surgeons in laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.

Dr. Pleatman is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the American College of Surgeons, the Michigan State Medical Society, and the Oakland County Medical Society
