The Pleatman SacTM

For safe and easy containment and removal of large, infected, or suspicious tissue in endoscopic procedures.

Operative endoscopy has emerged as a major therapeutic modality in surgery. Removal of the operative specimen, however, has been difficult because of the limitations imposed by the laparoscopic technique itself.

Cabot Medical, working with Dr. Mark Pleatman, has developed the Pleatman Sac, a device which facilitates removal of specimens while minimizing contamination of the abdominal cavity or wound tract. Its self-sealing shape and sturdy construction make it very easy to use.

The Pleatman Sac was the first laparoscopic retrieval sac introduced, and immediately became the top-selling device of its kind. In spite of the introduction of numerous me-too devices by other companies, the Pleatman Sac remains the strongest, most reasonably-priced, and popular retrieval sac in the world.

The Pleatman Sac is now manufactured and marketed by Gyrus Medical.

The Pleatman Sac has several unique features which differentiate it from other devices and make it easy to use. It has an operative channel which allows insertion of an instrument for manipulation of tissue. The sac itself is made of a semirigid polymer which can withstand more than 50 lbs. of force, and facilitates removal of large specimens without extending the skin incision.
