How to connect to the University of Kentucky Live Webcast

The University of Kentucky Live Webcast can receive digital signals via ISDN lines up to a speed of 384 Kbps or via an IP (Internet Protocol) connection.

The following are different alternatives, which show how you or your Institution can access the UK Live Webcast so that your content can be re-transmitted live to the Internet.

Videoconference (VC) system via ISDN: Any videoconference system supporting H-320 protocols and connected to at least two ISDN channels, which results in a bandwidth of 128 kbps, will be able to link to our Polycom View Station. Better video quality is achieved with higher bandwidth connections.

Videoconference system via IP: Your institution may already have VC systems that support H-320 protocols (ISDN) and Internet Protocols (IP). If this is the case, the Internet becomes the most effective way to link up your signal to the UK Live Webcast. You should be aware that your Internet connection should have an upload speed of at least 500 kbps. Click here to find out how fast you can broadcast from your Institution. There are several desktop videoconference solutions, such as the Polycom Viavideo, that can be used as a more economical alternative to connect to the UK Live Webcast while maintaining the quality of the video images and sound.

NetMeeting: All Windows operative system comes with Netmeeting videoconference software already loaded. This option should be your last alternative to connect to the UK Live Webcast as the quality of the video and sound is significantly degraded because the transmission is accomplished through 64 kbps over the Internet. Keep in mind that, like any other desktop videoconference system via IP, a fast upload Internet access of at least 500 kbps is required.
